Project Goals:
The objective of this project is to set up an online Croatian-English chemical glossary and dictionary, containing basic information about terms and concepts that are frequently used in chemistry. Short text explanations, enriched with drawings and photos, should demystify chemistry and make it familiar to the wide circle of users. English translations should ease and hasten the orientation in huge quantity of written material concerning various fields of chemistry, which is accessible in English.
Chosen terms and concepts, important in chemistry and in chemistry-related fields of science, cover:
- basic terms in chemistry
- physical quantities
- measuring units
- classes of compounds and materials
- important theories and laws
Chemical glossary and dictionary has originally been ideated as a help for the students of The Faculty of Chemical Engineering and related faculties. However, it can also be useful to pupils and scientists. Parallel English and Croatian explanation of terms bring large base of texts about the chemistry, written in English language, closer to the wide range of users. Because of the intertwinement of different professions, "amateurs" are often mislead when they encounter unclear or wrongly used terms.
